According to Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project between 2008 and 2017 the rate of Emergency Department visits relating to suicide attempt increased across all age groups (Owens, 2020).
The rate was higher for males that in females during the period of study. The individuals in 5 to 24 age bracket had a higher chance of attempting suicide than those above 65 years.
Medicaid was the source of payment for all this cases. The cases mostly occurred in small towns and medium metropolis. This can be attributed to hard economic conditions in this areas.
