Isaac said to Jacob, "Don't take a Canaanite wife,"
For Isaac knew well, the sorrow and strife,
Of those who'd walked that path, unaware,
Of traps laid in love, hidden with care.
A father’s wisdom, forged in the past,
From tales of marriages that couldn’t last.
Isaac had seen, with his knowing eyes,
How Canaanite unions led to demise.
He guided his son to a place secure,
Where the heart could find a love that's pure.
Jacob obeyed, heeding his father's word,
For in his father’s counsel, truth was heard.
Do your parents guide you on whom to wed?
Do you follow the wisdom they've often said?
For parents see beyond the now,
They see the ending before you bow.
They know the partner who fits your soul,
The one who’ll make your life feel whole.
When they say, “Not that family, not that way,”
It’s to save you from heartache, night and day.
They shield you from beer and smoke-filled nights,
And steer you clear of future fights.
When they say, "That one will lead you astray,"
They're protecting you from a painful day.
Esau, brother of Jacob, did not heed,
He chose Canaanite wives, against the creed.
And in his marriage, bitter grew the tale,
For his parents, Isaac and Rebecca, wailed.
So if you wish to fill your parents with sorrow,
Marry the one they warn of tomorrow.
But if peace you seek, and love that's true,
Listen to the wisdom they give to you.
