My Learned Friend

My learned friend

My friend wants to be nominated,

He is eying for a plum job.

My friend is educated,

In fact, he is my village top cream.

My friend has been abroad,

He knows what other nations are doing to develop.

But, my friend is apolitical,

He does not sing politicians or political parties.

My friend has submitted his papers,

He is waiting to hear his name mentioned in big houses,

If not in county assembly,

It will be in state or harambee house.

My friend is sure to get the job,

His competitors are village boys,

All of them are magua.

But, they are radicals of boys in big houses.

Last time I talked with him he called me “PESSIMIST”,

What does it mean?

I have never been in class.

But, I had told him nomination jobs are for fanatics.

I am not learned like my friend,

But, I am an old man,

I have seen much,

I know partisan gives jobs.

My friend honey,

But, he does not know two things,

One, books and political fanaticism are equal,

and, sponsoring a candidate or party is better than papers!

Is it in my village where books and nomination are divergent?

Let the learned inform me.

I do not want my children to be like my friend.

I want them to go for what they can get!
