Directorate of Criminal Investigations (formerly Criminal Investigation Department)

DCI is criminal investigation department of Kenya Police.

DCI is headed by a director who reports to the Inspector of Kenya Police.

The DCI director is appointed by the president.

DCI headquarters are at Nairobi, Kiambu Road.

Functions of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations

Under the direction, command and control of the Inspector General, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations:

· Collects and provides criminal intelligence

· Undertakes investigations on serious crimes including homicides, narcotics, money laundering and economic crimes

· Maintains law and order

· Detects and prevents crime

· Apprehends offenders

· Maintain criminal records

· Coordinates country Interpol Affairs

· Carries out investigation of matters that may be referred to it by the Independent Police Oversight Authority
