Kenyatta House Maralal, Samburu County

This is a house that was built in 1959.

It is now a National Monument.

This is the house where negotiation for the country’s independence took place.

The house is located in Maralal town.

The house is iconic in Kenya’s history because it was a detention site for Kenya’s first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1961just before his release.

Mzee Kenyatta came to this house when he was transferred from Lodwar, after being there for 7 years.

It was while here that Mzee Kenyatta completed his book “Facing Mount Kenya.”

The house is in a pleasant setting of Maralal with a view of Mount Kenya to the south.

Former president, Uhuru Kenyatta, is said to have been conceived in this house!

The house displays interesting exhibits like historic photographs, the original telephone and furniture of the Kenyatta family.
