The economic crisis that came with the Great Depression made American families to undergo confusion and lose pride in their lives. The families that relied on the male as the bread winner rose up and searched for jobs, this made women to be new workers in the face of underemployment and unemployment. The Americans faced unemployment in cities and many opted to move from urban to rural areas. This was accelerated by the foreign workers who were willing to work at any given wage. It was the State Department that came to their rescue by stopping immigrants from Europe and Mexico and deporting the illegal immigrants. The working class also had to forego vacations, skip meals and reduce purchases to cope with hard economic environment that surrounded them.
