What do you think are the disadvantages of delayed trials? Right now the Federal government can blame the Covid-19 pandemic for delayed trials, but, criminal justice even before the pandemic had a lot of delays.
There are cases that have taken more than a year between arrest and appearing in court. The delay might mean the Federal government is giving the accused time to bribe witnesses or for the crime committed not to appear as serious as it deserves. Trial delay is unfair and mental torture to all parties involved (Silverglate, 2014).
