Every employee looks forward for a promotion. No single employee wants to remain in the same position for decades. But, why do employee find themselves in the same position for a whole decade even after apply for internal promotion? In this paper, I will look on what it takes for an employee to be internally promoted.
Many are the times employees think going back to school and earn a certificate will make them rise higher in the organization they work for. Others think the longer one stays in an organization will earn him or her a chance during promotion.

Employees need to understand the organization culture before they request for a promotion. It is not all the time merit is rewarded with promotion. The number of years one has worked will never be equal to promotion. One’s contribution in an organization surpasses merit and the longer one has been in an organization (Smith, 2013).
