Cigarettes is generally known to cause serious health risks to the human body such as throat and lung cancer, tuberculosis and other ailments. It is also known to be harmful to second-hand smokers who are severely affected by the smoke caused by the smoker.
While cigarettes may be that harmful, I do not think that the government should ban the product because of two major reasons. One, what will the addicts use instead of cigarettes, since they have been accustomed to smoking. Secondly, cigarettes are a big employer in that banning the product will mean that the government will create another disaster of joblessness.
Where will the thousands employed in the cigarette manufacturing industries go? What the government should do is to make cigarette manufacturers to include a product liability note or a disclaimer telling consumers of the health impact of consuming cigarettes so that users will have an idea about the side effects and other outcomes when consuming the product.
Nonetheless, most users hardly read about such disclaimers. In case there is another serious defect with the product, manufacturers have to report all potentially hazardous product defects within 24 hours of discovery according to consumer product safety commission (CPSC).
