As at 2022 Nyeri County has been under the leadership of 4 governors.

• Nyeri County first governor was Nderitu Gachagua who passed on while undergoing pancreatic cancer medication. The second governor was Wamathai Samuel Githaiga who assumed the County leadership following Nderitu Gachagua death. Wamathai was the deputy County governor in Nderitu Gachagua administration.

• Wahome Gakuru was the third Nyeri County governor. He passed on via road accident. Mutahi Kahiga who is the current governor assumed the office since he was the deputy County governor.
