Samburu county is one of the counties in the Northern Kenya. If you are in Nairobi you can access the county through two routes. One you can go to Nyahururu and then board vehicle to Maralal from there. Two you can go to Isiolo, then board Matatu to Wamba and then proceed to Maralal. Maralal is the seat of the Samburu county government.

The county is headed by Moses Lenolkulal, who is serving for the second time 2013 -2022.

The county has 3 constituencies;

As per 2019 census Samburu county had 310,327 people. The Samburu County population is spread in the county as follows:

The majority of the people in this county are Samburu (who are nicknamed the butterfly people), Turkana, Kikuyu, Meru, among other tribes. The Samburu people are livestock keepers like Maasai, but a few also practices farming. The Meru and Kikuyu are majorly business owners in this county.

This county has a lot of markets that deals with livestock like cows, goats and sheep. It is in this markets you will find business people selling sugar, cooking oil and all sort of foodstuffs to the Manyatta people.

The best places to visit in this county are;

1. Kenyatta House in Maralal

2. Suguta Valley on your way to Baragoi

3. Samburu National Park in Samburu East

Around August every year there is Maralal Camel Derby event, this is the time revelers flood a place called Yare near Maralal for a whole week. But, the event is organized to bring together the people of the County.

The county has a lot of guesthouses where travelers can spend the night. For example, in Maralal there is Maralal Safari Lodge, Cheers Guesthouse, Le Shangrila Inn, Samburu Guesthouse, among many others.
