Digital Proficiency Process

Developing a growth mindset enables you to face new technology confidently in order to meet your goals.

When you apply growth mindset to technology, you find new ways to utilise digital tools you’re familiar with, and at the same time find yourself exploring new tools you can use to set and meet your goals.

Digital proficiency process (DPP) is a system you can use to increase your proficiency in finding and using the best digital tools to meet your goals.

Before you can work through the DPP, you must identify and state your goal. What are you trying to accomplish? If you know what you need to do, you can start thinking about digital tools you’ll need to reach your goal.

Four steps of the digital proficiency process are;

1. Navigate: Involves planning for your needs by answering these questions: What kinds of digital tools will help you accomplish your goal? What will you need to learn in order to use those tools effectively?

2. Select: Most tasks can be accomplished using many different digital tools. In this step, select the best tool for the job by answering these two questions: Which tool will be most efficient and effective for accomplishing the goal? Which tool seems most comfortable to use?

3. Use: Now that you’ve made a decision, it’s time to use the digital tool to accomplish your goal.

4. Review: Think about how the technology worked and what results you achieved: Did you reach your goal? What difficulties did you encounter? What would you do differently if faced with the same task?

Learning new technology takes time, practice, and a willingness to try again if you don’t succeed right away. Knowing that new things take effort is an important step in learning!
