Introduction to Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is one of the world’s most frequently used word processing program or application software.

Microsoft Word is part of Microsoft Office (or MS Office), which is a suite or collection of applications that includes Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, among others.

Word processing programs or software’s like Microsoft Word (Ms Word) allows users to view, create, edit, and save text-based documents. These documents might be notes, school essays, professional résumés, articles, book manuscripts, blog entries, work reports, website content, or something else.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word is important because;

1. You can use Microsoft Word to create all kinds of materials, at home and at the office. It is the standard in word processing programs, and many employers expect their employees to use it.

2. Many other useful applications have user interfaces that resemble Microsoft Word. Therefore, recognising icons and commands in Microsoft Word will equip you to use other applications, such as Google Docs, Publisher, PowerPoint, and website builders like WordPress and Blogger.

In Microsoft Word you can create a blank document from scratch, or you can choose a template from Word’s extensive template library.

Template options include meeting agendas, brochures, calendars, newsletters, certificates, invoices, letterheads, and résumés among others.

Word documents are saved as .docx or .doc files by default, but they can also be saved as PDF (portable document format).

In Microsoft Word copying and pasting allows you to duplicate and move sections of text within a document, to and from different documents, or from other sources (such as websites or emails).
