Silent Prayers and Heavy Hearts

It was Sunday, around nine,
We were going to church, feeling fine.
We gave an old mama a ride,
And saw her 40 plus son, drunk, heading home.
He didn’t even see his mother,
Lost in his world, he didn’t care.

As we passed, she softly muttered,
“When I get home, I’ll find a mess instead.
I don’t know what he’s always looking for in my house,
He even undo my bed and more.”

We dropped her off at her church’s gate,
And we went on,
though our hearts felt the old mama weight.

Before our pastor began to preach,
She said, “Let me pray for parents in need,
Those who struggle with their kids each day,
If you need this prayer, step forward.”

Then all the older men and women rushed to the altar,
Over fifty years, with faces filled with pain.
Some knelt down, tears falling fast,
Crying for the troubles that seemed to last.
