A friend of mine asked me, “Why is my website not visible when I search it on google or any other browser?” This is one question many people who run websites or blogs ask themselves. The sad reality is most of them search for the answer from wrong people. I have listened stories of most of them and majority are advised to pay for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). But is that the right answer?
There a few things that website and blogs owners need to know. One, when one buys a domain name and pays for website to be developed and is visible online, it does not mean the search engines are aware of the existence of that website or blog. One need to submit it to the search engines for indexing, so that it can be visible online. The major search engines are Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, among others. Website and blog owners need to be sure that their sites are submitted to these search engines. These requires the website developer to generate the website sitemap and submit it so that web crawlers can be able to know the existence of that site.
Two, there is something called Google publisher. This is the site where one publishes the website to be visible on Google news application. If the website or the blog is not visible on Google news (see below photo) then it means the website is not submitted at Publisher center.
Lastly, website and blog owners need to be aware of Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a tool that enable one to know several things about a website or a blog. For example, one can know the numbers of website or blogs visitors per day, their location, and other parameters that are important for SEO and marketing. A person who owns a website or blog and does not know about Google Analytics is not serious on his or her online presence.
