The president can issue homeland security directives that relates to domestic security. On the other hand, executive orders are ways of issuing national government directives. They are used by the president to manage the executive branch of the government ( Department of Homeland Security, n.d.).

Border security is important as far as the security of citizens is concerned. The people who get access to enter into the United States without following the right procedure are a threat to domestic security. This is because they make the government strain in giving the basic life necessities and also they are a threat to the people they are attached to ( Department of Homeland Security, n.d.). For example, the people who enter the United States from Mexico on the south border are a great threat to homeland security. This is because they can ferry drugs and weapons that can be used to harm citizens.
To prevent citizens from border and immigration threats, former president Donald Trump issued an executive order on January 25, 2017 to make the Department of homeland security contain and control what goes on at the border points. This was meant to help border patrol and immigration officers to improve their services on border points. Illegal criminal groups and cartels at the border point are responsible for the increased crime rate. This is because these criminals are involved in human trafficking, smuggling, among other crimes (The White House, 2017).
The policy allowed construction of physical wall on the southern border, positioning of enough officers to man the border, detaining individuals thought to have violated the immigration laws, deporting those caught without legal documents, among other things (The White House, 2017).
