HR Professional Ethics

HR Professional Ethics

Discuss three examples of ethical challenges that HR professionals may encounter as they apply to modern organizations. Discuss how you would address each situation (not necessarily the solution, but how you would approach the problem). Use the outline below to structure your response.

Treating employees fairing in absence of unions.

Define and Discuss

Recent research has shown a trend of decline in unions. Nowadays employees do not form unions. The laws in place has made organizations to provide things that unions fought for. This makes employees not to see any need of forming or joining unions. But, is this right? HR professional may use this loophole to exploit employees. For example, employees who are not unionized are likely to be given lower pay and poor working conditions (Lumen Learning, n.d.).

Explain
how to address

HR professionals are the ones that act as a link between employees and the organization owners. These professionals should ensure their organization treats employees well. This includes ensuring employees are not given a pay below the Federal wage rate and ensuring employees are safe and secure while working. This entails ensuring laws that protect employees like OSHA regulations and other guidelines are implemented in their workplaces.

Managing employees without interfering with their privacy.

Define and Discuss

Advancement in technology is helping all sectors of the economy and HR is not an exemption. It is now very easy for HR professionals to use analytics, AI, monitoring software’s, among other technologies in employee management. Though, these technologies are good for the organization they can be misused to the disadvantage of the employees (Sherman, 2021). For example, using AI HR professionals can find out employees who shows no signs of staying in the organizations for long. This can make the employee be denied promotion opportunity, pay increase, career growth and development opportunity, among other things. Also, the software’s used to manage remote workers can be used to collect employee’s personal data. This can be used to discriminate employees.

Explain how to address

HR professional should use the available technology with an aim of helping employees to better themselves. For example, the AI data can be used to find out why the employee want to move from the organization. The same for the data collected by the monitoring software’s. It can be used to identify areas that employee need training or development. For example, a remote employee may be in need of training on time management.

Ethical Challenge 3: Managing Employees from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Define and Discuss

As businesses expand to foreign nations IHRM becomes an issue. The organization must be able to manage its employees in international markets. The policies that work in the local environment may fail to work in foreign nations. This calls for HR professional to understand the labor requirement of foreign nations. This a challenge to many IHRM professionals. If the HR professionals decide to use similar methods of managing employees conflict may emerge due to global/local dilemma (Sims, 2019).

Explain how to address

The HR professionals need to choose either to let international business operations to be suited to individual local nations requirements or develop policies which are similar in the whole organization. But, due to complexity and differences on how businesses are run in different nations, it will be wise to have HR policies designed for each nation. This will ensure the organization is able to meet legal requirements.
