Integrity in Military

Integrity is very critical in military. I really wonder how people who are entrusted with the responsibilities of ensuring others are safe can compromise it.

There is that monument at West Point Military Academy of cadet honor code that is written, “A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.” But, in the same place cadets are caught cheating in their exams.

Is that not an indication of their character? Can such officers be expected to uphold integrity in their professional duties? Even if they are taken through willful admission process instead of being thrown out of military career, will the process change them?
