Sexual harassment in remote work

One can think remote work can reduce sexual harassment but the opposite is true. Sexual harassment is not only about physical contact but also verbal, sharing video clips, images, and other sexual content.

At our work place since the time remote work became the way of life due to social distancing guidelines, cases of sexual harassment intensified. It seems presence of colleagues made some employees to avoid sexual harassment.

Nowadays employees share sexual images and video clips, and at times during videoconferences sexually abuse each other. The habit is rampant because no one is there to offer protection and getting evidence on outsourced platforms is not easy.

HR need to offer regular training on sexual harassment. Also, a zero-tolerance policy can be put in place.

It is not only choosing not to return to office that makes women to earn less compared to their male counterparts. It is a global tradition for employers to discriminate women. This comes because of the level of education, days off, occupational segregation, family responsibilities and work experience.

Though, women have been able to rise to positions of management and occupations that have been a reserve for men, family responsibility and motherhood play a big role in widening the wage gap.
