Emergency Preparedness
- An Emergency Action Plan for the client has been reviewed and understood.
- Adequate PPE is available for required tasks.
- Walkways are well-lit and free of clutter.
- Water, ice, snow, or grease is cleaned up immediately.
- Floors and hallways are cleared of clutter.
- Lamp, extension, and telephone cords are positioned out of traffic flow.
- Throw rugs are removed or secured with non-skid mats or double-sided tape.
- Rug edges are not frayed and are tacked down if necessary.
- Stairs are equipped with handrails and are well-lit.
- Proper lighting is maintained throughout the home.
- A sharps container or a durable, hard plastic container is available if needed.
- Sharp objects, such as bed frames, are padded for safety.
- Oxygen hoses are uncoiled, free of kinks, and kept out of walkways.
- No smoking, open flames, or flammable items are near oxygen use.
- Medical equipment is properly stored.
- Materials are stored safely at an appropriate height.
- The home is free of pest infestations and animal waste.
- Animals are controlled to ensure safety.
- Medications and chemicals are labeled and stored correctly.
- Appliances and extension cords with exposed or frayed wires are not in use.
- Fire extinguishers are readily available and properly serviced.
- Smoke alarms are functional, and a schedule for battery changes is maintained.
