When a customer comes to your business to buy something you do not have or sell what do you do?
A well connected business person will get the item from another seller and resell it!
The moment a customer is told to wait for a product to come from the store or be prepared at the back office, it is being sourced from other sellers.
You do not just let a customer to leave your business and yet you can earn commission by selling other businesses products.

I do not operate from Nairobi but I know businesses in Nairobi where to refer people to, and get products from when my customers come to my business for products I do not sell.
But, there is this one customer who came to my business with another story.
He was looking for a service I offer.
He had been in another business within the same town.
That business could not offer what he wanted. He was referred to another business in another town.
He was told he cannot get the services he wanted in our town. But, the person who told him that was very aware I do offer those services.
When that person left that shop. He decided to take a vehicle and head to that town. But, before he could board a vehicle he met a friend who referred him to my business. He came.
I did what he wanted within 20 minutes. He was very happy. At my business he met his friends and they started talking.
He told them, "I had been told I cannot get these services in this town. I have discovered what I did not know."
From that day that person became my regular customer. He brought even his friends.
When customers are not referred to a place they can get products or services they need at ease and later discover where to get them they move.
If you do not offer certain products or services refer customers where they can get them.
If they discover them on their own or through their friends and you were in a position to refer them they will definitely move from your business.
