In Access, the database application file stores all of the separate objects that you create and use.
The database file must be created before you can create and use any other objects.
By default, the database file will be saved as a .accdb file.
You can create a new database file by using a prebuilt template or a blank database from scratch.
Templates
A template is a predesigned database that contains various pre-built objects.
A template provides you with a complete, ready-to-use database application.
After creating a database based on a template, use the new database directly or customize the database to better meet your needs.
Templates are a great starting point if your needs are addressed in the template.
You can choose from several templates that are installed with Access.
How to create a new database from a template
Click the File tab to open the Backstage view if an Access database is already open.
If Access is closed, open Access.
The Start page displays showing the Recent list on the left and thumbnails of sample templates on the right.
Click the New button. The list of sample templates displays.
The templates may display in a different order based on the most recently selected template.
Select the template you wish to use.
Type the file name for your database in the File Name box.
Click the Browse for a location to put your database button to select the location on your computer or USB drive to save the database and click OK.
Click the Create button.
The new database opens.
A Welcome form may display based on the template selected.
Click the Get Started button on the Welcome form.
Click the Enable Content button in the Security Warning message bar if prompted.
