The nation is not able to cope with a physical threat like power outage. This is because it will trigger other challenges like communication systems breakdown, industries will halt the operations and the like.

The role of the federal government in strengthening and maintaining secure, functional and resilient critical infrastructures include providing a platform where Federal, State, Local, Tribal and Territorial governments and private sector critical infrastructure operators and owners can collaborate in security matters.
This entails threat information sharing and building capabilities to deal with threats. The federal government also delegates sector specific agencies to lead all its effort of reduce vulnerabilities, mitigate risk and hasten response and recovery efforts. For example, the DHS is the lead agency in securing government facilities (CISA, n.d.).
