Several factors play a role in making the demand curve to shift to the right without any movement of the supply curve and as a result price and production increases.
Among this factors are the commodity becoming popular, for example, fashion changes.
But, in the case of Lithium it is the carbon free or clean energy campaigns that are going on in the world that has made lithium to be popular and promise its demand will keep going up.
The other factor is the price of complements going down. In our case we can say, smartphones are now cheaper than when they came to the market. This makes smartphones to be accessible by all people all over the world and therefore lithium which is used to make batteries its demand rises.
The other factor than can be used to explain this situation is increase in prices of lithium substitutes. For example, as petrol and diesel prices continue to hike, electric vehicles (EVs) gain popularity and as result use of EVs increases demand of Lithium.
