Certificate of Service
Have you ever been employed in a certain place and then a better opportunity made you to leave that organization?
What did you carry from that place?
It is very common to hear job seekers say 'I have worked in a given company for 5 years" but they do not have anything to proof it.
It is expected for one to have either certificate of service (shown below) or recommendation letter from past employers.
These documents are not necessarily for showing you have been employed in a certain place.
There are organization that hire people who have worked in a given sector or company. For example, banks and SACCOs have a tendency of hiring people with experience from other banks or SACCOs.
These documents also shows how long one can stay in a given organization. A person who moves in several organizations within a short period of time is risky to employ. He or she will still move.
A certificate of service should contain the following;
- Details of employer; Name, contacts, location, etc.
- Employee details; full name, id number, years of service and position held.
